Will Hillman Be Able to Be Contained? Preview of R+L Carriers Bowl
Dec 15th
The Louisiana Superdome comes alive on December 17th when the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl starts. The San Diego State Aztecs take on the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns in a battle for the championship. The Aztecs come into play with an 8-4 record and a 4-3 record in their MWC. The Aztecs average 29.8 points per game on offense and 24.4 points per game on defense.
The Aztecs are headed up by senior QB Ryan Lindley (2,740 yards – 52.5 completion pct – 20 td’s / 8 int – 122.9 rating). The running game is in competent hands with star sophomore running back Ronnie Hillman (287 carries – 1,656 yards – 19 td’s). Hillman had a 99-yard touchdown run in a game against Wyoming on October 29th. Hillman reminds many of previous Aztecs phenom and newest NFL Hall Of Famer Marshall Faulk who also ran all over the field against opposing teams in the early 1990′s.
The Ragin’ Cajuns defense will have their hands full in attempting to slow down Ronnie Hillman on the ground. Both defenses will definitely get a workout in this shootout of two impressive squads. The two-way threat of Gautier versus the ground game of Hillman will be on display. Both teams will work to put a lot of points on the board in this classic.
Mavericks Finally Lose One, 106-100 Against Thunder
May 20th
It was not an easy victory by any standard, but the Thunder evened their Western Conference Finals series against the Mavericks 106-100.
Both teams had double-digit leads at points during the game, with Dallas leading early and Oklahoma City battling back to swing the point total in the other direction.
But in the end, the Thunder shot just better enough to earn them a win to tie the playoff series before the next two games on their home court.
Underdog Night in the NBA Playoffs on Monday
May 3rd
Last night’s NBA games kicked off the second round of the playoffs for the Lakers-Mavericks series and the Bulls-Hawks series.
Both of the home teams lost these games, with the underdogs either taking control early or battling back late to overcome a fourth-quarter deficit.
What were the problems with the seasoned Lakers and talented Bulls that caused them to break down so severely on their home courts?
Using Bluffs When Playing Poker
Apr 18th
Everyone loves to pull off a great bluff. It just makes you feel good knowing that you won without having the best hand.
Bluffing will make you look very good at times and very bad at other times. If you are good at bluffing then you usually make other players uncomfortable and that is the goal when you are playing poker.
You want the other players at the table to always wonder what you are going to do.
Can the Boston Celtics Win the NBA Playoffs?
Apr 14th
With the way they have played since the NBA All-Star Break and the trade deadline, the Boston Celtics were lucky to get the third seed in the Eastern Conference.
As a result, they will be taking on the New York Knicks in the first round of the playoffs, a team which is also messily looking for its identity with a new lineup.
The Celtics had some pretty worrying games near the end of the season, losing to both the Chicago Bulls and the Miami Heat in less than a week.
Decisive Games in the NHL for Playoff Hopes
Apr 7th
Wednesday night made the NHL Playoffs picture quite a big more clear with a lots of decisive games.
One team managed to guarantee a spot in the postseason, two other teams took a step closer to improving their positions, and one team was officially eliminated from any possibility of making it.
Can the Celtics and Heat Compete Come Playoff Time?
Apr 1st
Everyone expected the Chicago Bulls to be better – much better – this year than they had been in the recent past, but no one expected them to be No. 1 in the Eastern Conference.
But what about their two chief competitors in the East right now?
The Boston Celtics and Miami Heat were predicted to lead the conference, but both are now playing for the second and third place going into the playoffs.
Butler Rides Mack to NCAA Final Four
Mar 30th
When Shelvin Mack attacked Pitt during the tournament by scoring 30 points and seeming unstoppable from 3 point range, you would have never guessed that this guys only averaged 15 points per game this season, with the majority of those games coming in the Horizon League, a middle of the road mid-major.
When he came out and nearly repeated his performance against Florida, he confirmed to many what Butler fans already knew, as Mack goes, so do these Bulldogs.
Basketball Preview for Thunder at Heat
Mar 16th
Arguably, the biggest game in the NBA tonight is the matchup between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Miami Heat.
The Thunder travel to South Beach to take on a team with a slightly stronger record, a team that has come roaring back from its five-game losing streak to post three huge wins, two of them against the most elite teams in the NBA Western Conference.
Looking at the Kansas Jayhawks
Mar 15th
Definitely not the toughest regional in the tournament, but it is not the weakest either, so let’s start the conversation off in the Southwest.
Obviously, the team to beat in the Southwest is Kansas.
The Jayhawks come into the tournament 32-2 with a conference and a conference tournament title under their belt, and perhaps the most dominating offense in the country.
Bulls Win in Miami to Sweep Series
Mar 7th
At the beginning of the 2010-2011 NBA season, who would have predicted that the Chicago Bulls would sweep the season series with the Miami Heat, and replace them as the No. 2 team in the Eastern Conference?
But on Sunday afternoon, that is just what happened, as the Bulls fought through a very close game to come out as the victors in Miami 87-86.
Best Team in NBA Easily Defeats Miami Heat
Mar 5th
After completely melting down in the third and fourth quarters of their home game against the Orlando Magic, the Miami Heat were hoping to pull out a win in San Antonio against the Spurs.
But the top team in the Western Conference and the NBA shut down the Heat and cruised to a seemingly easy 125-95 victory.
Taylor Takes Over for Wisconsin, Destroys Hoosiers
Mar 5th
A major component of leadership is rising to the occasion when the occasion calls for it. Jordan Taylor is well acquainted with “the occasion” and Thursday night he proved to the country on ESPN just why he is the leader of a team that must be feared come tournament time.
With three of his teammates on the bench in foul trouble, Taylor took over in the second half and destroyed the Hoosiers hope of a comeback.
Heat Loses in Miami After Blowing 24-Point Lead
Mar 4th
Last night, the Orlando Magic were down by 24 points in the third quarter of their game. What would you expect them to do?
If you answered, “lose to an obviously better team that was beating them by such a huge margin,” you must not have been aware that the Magic were playing the Miami Heat, one of the worst clutch teams in the league right now.
Kevin Durant Likely to Sit Out Hawks Game
Mar 4th
The Oklahoma City Thunder may be playing Friday night in Atlanta without their star Kevin Durant. Durant, the NBA’s top scorer, sat out practice on Thursday with a sprained ankle and is questionable for Friday night’s game.
Thunder head coach Scott Brooks said that it is doubtful that Durant will play against the Atlanta Hawks.
Billups and Knicks Beat Heat in Miami
Mar 1st
With their 91-86 on-the-road win against the Miami Heat, the New York Knicks have begun to prove that they are an NBA franchise that can compete with the elite teams like Miami, Chicago, and Boston. The addition of Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups has made the team much better, even if they are still woefully incomplete.
But it is because the Knicks are still building that they are so much fun to watch and to root for. Every time they beat a great NBA team, it feels like an upset, despite the fact that the team is good. In fact, they are better than good. In a year or two, they may be conference champions or NBA champions, after they fill the holes in the program.
Wizards Lose 15 of Last 17 Games with Latest Loss to Chicago
Mar 1st
With their 105-77 blow out win against the Washington Wizards, the Chicago Bulls have moved just 1 point behind the Miami Heat in the NBA Eastern Conference. Derrick Rose and Luol Deng each scored 21 points, while Joakim Noah put 19 points on the board. The game was an absolute disaster for the Wizards, losing by nearly 30 points at home.
The Bulls led early and never gave up the lead over four quarters of play, with Derrick Rose being a fan favorite even on the road. Chants of “MVP! MVP” were heard during the game, and the Chicago guard is a likely bet to win the league MVP this year. The Bulls are putting together an impressive winning streak, this being their third straight. They have only lost one game in the previous eight.
